About Us

Renmore Rapid Judo Club is a very active Judo club, aimed at players under 18 years of age.
We are a host club of many events, and a victors of the John Allen Perpetual Cup.
Not to mention, we have been honoured with the prestigious title of the National Judo Club of the Year for two consecutive years (2011 and 2012).

Our Story Begins…

Renmore Rapid Judo Club came into being in late autumn 2004, when John Creaven of Judo Ireland started Judo Classes in Renmore Sports Complex. By January of the following year thanks to all the parental commitment, John’s involvement could cease and the parents established Renmore Judo Club, which was affiliated to the governing body – Judo Ireland.

Rocky Road…

As a brand new club, we had faced some of the initial problems, including the need to purchase own mats and of course the lack of resources for same. However, following grant aid from Galway City V.E.C., Department of Arts, Sports & Tourism, Galway City Council and Pobal, our club was in the happy position to purchase sufficient mats and provide uniforms for our players.

Focus on Children…

From the start it was decided to limit our club to young players. As one of the aims of Judo Ireland is to encourage more players to practise Judo, we decided our focus group would be children.
We sent flyers to local schools advertising our club, and initially we started with 1 hour class on Thursday nights. Soon we had to increase this to 2 hours because of the number of children wishing to join.

Let’s Continue Our Story…

Come along on Thursday evening at 7pm and have a 1st class free as a taste of the sport of Judo.
